Gift Guide For The Sustainable Kings & Queens

Christmas can be tricky when it comes to giving gifts to the waste-conscious. If you’ve decided to exchange gifts and want to give them something that’s eco-friendly, this list will be helpful in guiding your search. We have made many sustainable swaps over the past few years and tested so many products, and realized they are not all made the same. These are our favorites or gifts we know your composting vegetarian friend will love.

We got one BruMate and within the week had two more en route. These bottles keep ice frozen and drinks extra cold. If you’re a straw girly, you’ll love this model. It’s also available in SO many colors.

This eco-tote is the perfect substitution for disposable plastic bags. It’s great for carrying groceries, your farmer’s market haul, or a laptop and water bottle.

This every-day, large tote bag is sourced from 100% certified organic cotton without the use of any harmful chemicals or pesticides.

• Dimensions: 20″ × 14″ × 5″ (50.8 × 35.6 × 12.7 cm)

These are a crowd favorite. Every time I share them, people tell me they are trying them out or even reordering more. I use these for applying toner, removing makeup, and even taking off nail polish. Instead of tossing these makeup pads away, you machine wash them in the enclosed mesh bag.

Has your friend or family member expressed an interest in reducing waste? A complete kit like this is a great gift and encouragement for them to kick off the new year on the right, sustainable foot. This pack includes reusable straws, sandwich bags, food wraps, and produce mesh bags.

I am completely obsessed with this extraordinary, recycled art. These are wine bottles that are melted down to create a unique serving platter. The cutest part of all is that the cork of the bottle comes out and it’s a cheese knife. This is a great one for the in-laws.

Even someone without any sort of green thumb will enjoy this honeybee garden set. The easy-to-use pots, soil discs, and seeds will grow flowers before your eyes that will attract honeybees to your yard. This is a great gift for anyone interested in gardening but maybe doesn’t have the room for one, or for the gardener who’s looking to bring more diversity to their space.

It’s really easy to forget to compost. My mom bought us this compost bin and we have been composting ever since. It sits on our counter because it’s not hideous (we have butcher block countertops so it actually matches) and because then we see it. It contains smells and keeps pests away so we don’t have to take it to the compost pile every single day.

For the host, the clean-freak, the mom, and the practical one on your list: just try me. These replace paper towels because they can be machine washed and reused up to 200 times. This pack of 10 is color coded so you can assign colors to specific cleaning tasks. Ie: blue for wiping counters, yellow for cleaning the bathroom.

Wool Dryer Balls

Dryer sheets are a lose-lose. They’re bad for your dryer and your clothes, and they’re really bad for the environment. Switching to wool dryer balls was such an easy change and we’ve never gone back. We even add essential oil drops to the wool balls to make our clothes smell delicious.
